Emanuela’s Auerberg back pack on the streets of Berlin
We were inspired by World Bicycle Relief founder, F.K. Day, who spoke at the NYU Stern Alumni conference in London last week. Founded by his company SRAM Corporation in 2005, World Bicycle Relief provides bikes to people in developing countries, giving them greater access to education, work and health care. During the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami they worked with world vision to provide 24,000 bicycles to the people of Sri Lanka. With support from leaders in the bicycle industry, WBR has gone on to distribute over 75,000 bicycles to people in need - including volunteer healthcare workers & educators caring for people living with and effected by HIV / AIDS , and students in rural Zambia to increase access to schools. They implement maintenance training programs wherever they go, training local mechanics – creating local & self sufficient systems.
